Competitive Intelligence

Deep, ethical, actionable intelligence that reveals where your competitors are heading — and where the real opportunities lie.

Strategic clarity in a crowded GCC marketplace

In the fast-evolving markets of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the wider Gulf, advantage belongs to organisations that can see around corners. Competitor moves here are often announced late, reported inconsistently, or visible only to those already inside the relevant networks. A competitor set that looked stable eighteen months ago can be reshaped by a single regulatory change, a sovereign-fund investment, or a regional player deciding to enter your category.

Competitive intelligence is the discipline of assembling a defensible picture of that landscape from sources that are legitimately available — and being explicit about how confident each part of the picture is. It is not corporate espionage, and the distinction is not merely legal etiquette: intelligence gathered improperly is intelligence you cannot cite in a board paper, cannot defend under scrutiny, and cannot rely on when it matters.

What we deliver

Market share estimation

Few GCC categories publish reliable share data. We build share estimates from the bottom up — triangulating distribution footprints, import and licensing records, hiring patterns, outlet counts, published financials where they exist, and structured trade interviews — and we state the confidence interval rather than presenting a single flattering number as fact.

Pricing architecture

How competitors actually price — list versus realised, the structure of discounts, bundling logic, channel margins, and where promotional activity is masking a structural position. Understanding a rival’s pricing architecture tells you which of their positions are defensible and which are being subsidised.

Capability and intent mapping

What a competitor is able to do is often a better predictor than what they say they will do. We map capacity, talent movements, technology investment, partnership structures and regulatory filings into a view of plausible next moves — with the reasoning attached, so you can disagree with a conclusion on its evidence rather than on instinct.

Market-entry analysis

For organisations entering the Gulf, the competitive question is inseparable from the structural one: licensing and free-zone considerations, local partner requirements, distribution realities, and which incumbent will respond first and how hard. We assess the entry window as well as the entry case.

Early-warning monitoring

For clients in contested categories we run continuous monitoring against a defined watchlist of signals — so that a competitor’s move reaches you as an alert with context, not as a press release you read at the same time as your customers.

How we work

Every engagement begins with the decision you are trying to make. Intelligence gathered without a decision attached tends to be comprehensive and useless; intelligence scoped to a decision is narrower and far more valuable. We agree the questions, the evidence that would answer them, and the threshold at which you would act.

From there the work is multi-source by design. Secondary research establishes the documented picture. Primary work — structured interviews with trade, channel, former employees and category experts — tests it. Where the two disagree, we say so and explain which we trust and why. Cultural fluency matters throughout: in Gulf markets, a question asked the wrong way returns a polite answer rather than an accurate one.

Ethics, and why they are commercially useful

We do not misrepresent who we are, we do not approach a competitor’s staff under false pretences, and we do not solicit information a source is contractually bound to protect. This is a firm boundary, and it also happens to be the commercially sound position: findings obtained improperly create legal exposure, cannot be attributed in a board paper, and are frequently unreliable because the source had reason to mislead.

The same standard of evidence runs through everything Dreamdrive builds — including CitationLab, our education software, where an audit that cannot support a conclusion declines to draw one rather than guessing. A finding you cannot defend is not a finding.

What you receive

  • A board-ready synthesis that leads with the decision implication, not the methodology.
  • Competitor profiles covering position, capability, economics and probable intent.
  • An evidence appendix — every material claim traceable to its source, with confidence stated.
  • An explicit list of what we could not establish, and what it would take to establish it.
  • A working session with the team that did the research, not an account manager.
